Paula Hellyer



As the Director of Walsh & Beck, Paula leads the strategic and creative direction of the company. She has over 20 years experience working in senior marketing and communications roles and holds a BCom Marketing from the University of Otago. Paula is an accomplished all-rounder who works across the marketing spectrum.

Prior to establishing Walsh & Beck she was the marketing and communications manager for award winning architecture practice Jasmax. She is an ‘out of the box thinker’ who applies a fresh filter to all of her client work.


Katie Slaughter



Katie holds a BCom Marketing from the University of Otago and has worked in senior marketing and sales roles for a diverse range of organisations in New Zealand and overseas. Some of Australia and New Zealand’s most iconic brands including Mainland, Darrell Lea and Fairfax Media have benefited from her marketing talent.

Just prior to joining Walsh & Beck Katie was Regional Manager for Fairfax Media in Dunedin, a role that combined her strategic and business management skills. As a specialist in marketing strategy she will help bring clarity to any sector, brand or marketing challenge.


Lucinda McConnon



Luci excelled during her time at Otago University, taking out the Design prize for highest level of attainment in the second year of her study towards a BA in Design Studies. She then cut her teeth in student media, spending a year as Technical Editor at Critic magazine. While working there she picked up Best Cover design at the Aotearoa Student Press Association awards.

Prior to joining Walsh & Beck in 2016, Luci spent 3 years at the Otago University Students’ Association as their sole designer. This role included creating all the branding and collateral for the immensely popular Dunedin Craft Beer & Food Festival.


Ben Auton



With a Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) from the University of Otago, Ben is an empathetic multidisciplinary designer who uses user-centered design and his own art-infused processes to develop products, services, and digital platforms.

Ben loves his cat, old cars and fixing things.


Alex Lovell-Smith



With an MFA from Otago Polytechnic, Alex is a talented photographer and filmmaker. His ability to connect with people and places allows him to capture distinctive images. With a wide client base Alex’s images are compelling and diverse. An avid traveller Alex shoots for clients around the globe. Current clients include Delta Infrastructure, Aurora, Blis Technologies and MTF Finance.
